Setting Up for Festival Puja: Diwali, Navratri & Beyond

Festivals turn the home into a temple. With a little planning, your festival puja can be both authentic and stress-free. Here is how to set up for the big days of the year.
Start with the altar
Clean and decorate your mandir a day ahead. Place the presiding deity of the festival at the centre — Lakshmi and Ganesha for Diwali, the Devi for Navratri — at chest height, with fresh flowers, a clean cloth and rangoli nearby.
Gather your samagri early
- Diyas and plenty of ghee or oil and wicks
- Incense, camphor and a bell
- Flowers, garlands and offerings
- A mala for the festival sankalp and japa

Plan ahead, gift early
Order idols, combos and gifts well before the rush — festivals are also a time of giving, and gift-ready packaging makes it easy to bless family and friends. A curated combo is the simplest way to set up a complete puja in one go.
